How can we fix page indexing issues?

HARIDHA P372 26-Jan-2023

Page indexing is an important part of the process of making your website visible on search engines like Google. When Google crawls the web, it follows links to find new pages and adds them to its index. However, if your page is not indexed properly, it can result in your page not appearing in search results. In this blog post, we will discuss some common page indexing issues and what you can do to fix them.

Submit your website to Google

One of the main reasons for page indexing issues is that the page has not been linked to by any other pages. Google uses links to discover new pages and add them to its index. If your page has not been linked to by any other pages, Google may not have found it yet. To fix this, you can submit your website to Google for indexing through the Search Console, and also make sure to create internal and external links that point to your pages.

Remove the 'noindex' tag

Another common issue is the use of a 'noindex' tag on your page. The 'noindex' tag is a way to tell search engines not to index a certain page. This can happen accidentally if a plugin or a developer has added the tag to the page. To fix this, you will need to remove the 'noindex' tag from your page, and also check for other pages that might have this tag.

Check for crawl errors

Additionally, page indexing issues can also arise from technical problems with your website. For example, if your website is not accessible to Google because of a crawl error, Google will not be able to index your pages. To fix this, you can check for crawl errors in the Search Console, and also make sure that your website is accessible to Google by testing it with a tool like the Google Search Console.

Set up Redirects

Another reason for page indexing issues is that your website has been moved to a new domain or subdomain, and the previous URLs have not been redirected properly. Google uses URLs to index pages, and if the URLs have changed, Google will not be able to find your pages. To fix this, you can set up 301 redirects from your old URLs to your new URLs, this way the search engine will know that your page has moved and will update the index accordingly.

Improve the quality of your page

Lastly, page indexing issues can also happen when there are too many low-quality pages on your website. Google uses a complex algorithm to determine the relevance and quality of a page, and if your website has a lot of low-quality pages, it can negatively impact the indexing of your high-quality pages. To fix this, you can improve the quality of your pages by providing high-quality content, optimizing your page for search engines, and removing any low-quality pages from your website.

End-line

Page indexing issues can occur for a variety of reasons, including not being linked to by any other pages, the use of a 'noindex' tag, technical problems with your website, changes in URLs and having too many low-quality pages on your website. By identifying the issue and taking steps to correct it, you can improve your website's search engine rankings and increase the visibility of your page. It's important to regularly check the index status of your pages on the Search Console and take action accordingly.
